It's already the 3rd week of the year!  We're off and running, learning to be Proactive by staying in charge of ourselves at school. We're beginning to get compliments in the hall and sometimes in Specials.

In Literacy, we're doing "close reading" with the book, The Invisible Boy, learning to think deeply about the concepts the author is presenting and support our opinions with text based evidence.  We are learning the rules associated with the vowel teams, "ee", "ea", and the letter "y" as they all say the vowel sound long e in our skills block.

In Math, we've had a test on odd and even and using the number line to solve addition and subtraction problems to 20.  We have begun working on mental math strategies and targeting the counting on strategy instead of the earlier strategy of counting all.

In some sweet news, a parent sent in surprise doughnuts on Friday, and we enjoyed them thoroughly!  Also, one of our families has donated a basketball to our class.  Thank you all so much and for the supplies you have brought in as well.  We are very grateful!

News this week includes Friday's Early Release.  We will be choosing clubs and students will write down their first 5 choices.  Clubs will begin on the next Early Release Day.  We will get out at 1:15.  If you need to change your transportation plans, please send me a written note by Friday.  Dojo messages will be accepted. Have a great week!
