Welcome to 2nd Quarter!  Everyone is getting back into routines and procedures, getting ready to learn in a new quarter.  In Literacy, we are diving into fossils!  We are exploring what paleontologists do and will eventually have a plaster of paris fossil dig of our own.

The Science Unit for this quarter is Weather.  It's a great time to be looking at changes in temperature, wind, leaves, precipitation and barometric pressure.

Math focus is on word problems early in the quarter, with authentic stories involving comparison, change plus and change minus with unknowns in all positions.  Getting a firm foundation in comprehension of what a word problem is telling us and asking us is crucial so we can write the matching equation and using what we know about properties of addition and subtraction, we can rewrite the equation as a solution equation.

Social Studies will be later on in the quarter and will involve learning about cultures.

We are excited about our classroom WIG!  It is 100% of students will read 15 or more minutes every night Monday through Thursday nights!  We will add our results with the rest of 2nd grade and chart on the hall graph.  Please help your child read every night so we can be successful.  When our class has 100% for the whole week, everyone will get 10 DoJo points, maybe more!  More rewards will come if we keep it up.

Fun Run is Nov. 7 and we are having an assembly today to talk about it and get excited!  We have jugs in front of the office to fill with change as we raise money for our school.  All donations are needed and appreciated.  Each grade level is in a contest to see which one raises more money. Send in your extra change if you can!

Awards Day for first quarter is coming up.  I'll send more information on that when the date is finalized.  Have a great week!
