Hooray for First Grade!

Welcome to Room #1417!  The first quarter of first grade is flying by. Everyone is synergizing to make the giant step into first grade expectations.  We've been working hard to improve our reading including word call and comprehension. Math is leaping into story problems using partners, totals and unknowns. We're reading the stories, looking for what we've been told, what we're being asked and what operation we should use to solve.  All this requires concentration and focus. Please make sure child completes homework, gets a good night sleep and feels prepared for the day ahead. Coming to school late directly affects what they learn and whether or not they feel behind or confident.

Being "Proactive" is very important when it comes to homework. Inviting your child to be a leader and explain to you what they've learned and how to do it can be a real successful method of getting started without dragging feet and long faces. Homework is never just busy work. It is designed to reinforce what has been taught at school, allowing students to practice the new skill under different circumstances.
